It Takes a Campus
There were nine committees, with a total of about 100 members. And each of those 100 members enlisted the aid of many, many people in their departments to pull off a fabulously festive five-day celebration in honor of the inauguration of our new president, Catharine Bond Hill. To pull off an event of this magnitude requires the skills, talents, and enthusiasm of virtually every member of the community – from the carpenters who put up the signs directing visitors to various locations to the chefs who made the apple crepes at Cappy Hour to the web designers who created the home page banners for all the inaugural events. Vassar Welcomes Minority Scholars
While the competition among institutions of higher education for minority faculty is still fierce, Vassar’s aggressive recruiting over the last two years has resulted in significant gains. Of 25 tenure-track faculty hires in the last two years, 13 (52%) have been faculty of color, a significant achievement given that minority PhDs comprise only 13.6% of the total (National Center for Education Statistics). more...
Clowning Around
Professional clown, producer, director, writer, choreographer, and Tony Award-winning actor Bill Irwin will be on campus Saturday, November 11. Irwin will teach two master classes (movement for the stage and improvisation) and give a lecture followed by discussion in the Frances Daily Fergusson Dance Theater in Kenyon Hall. more...
