Vassar recently squared off with contending colleges in the national RecycleMania challenge, a competition to find out who produces the least waste. This sort of challenge is nothing new to Vassar, whose students first began a recycling program in the 1980s. Today, recycling is still a priority for the College Committee on Sustainability which reports that the college has moved from recycling 15 to 50 percent of its waste in the past five years. more...
Africana Studies turns 40
Archives and Special Collections It began as a protest in 1969, when 34 black female students took over Main Building. In the throes of the nationwide Civil Rights Movement, the students demanded the hiring of more black faculty, additional courses on the black experience, and the creation of a permanent program and a major in Black Studies. more...

Atlantic Productions Imagine a marine creature with a 10-foot head, a bite up to 11 times as strong as a Tyrannosaurus rex, weighing in at 45 tons. The fossil remains of this 50-foot-long creature that dominated Jurassic oceans 147 million years ago, dubbed Predator X, were discovered last summer in Svalbard, a Norwegian island near the North Pole. more...
